I acknowledge the First Peoples – the Traditional Owners of the lands where we live and work, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. I pay respect to Elders – past, present and emerging – and acknowledge the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within the Tasmania’s evolving cultural sensibilities .

CAREING

Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's do it in Civic Square

Boys do it, girls do it
Even carrots can be educated to do it
Let's do it, let's do it in Civic Square
The Dutch in old Amsterdam do it
Not to mention the Finns
Let's do it, let's do it in Civic Square
Some Launny people without means do it
People say in Hobart even they do it
Let's do it, let's do it in Civic Square
Romantic sponges, they say, ca do it
Even oysters in St Helens will do it
Let's do it, near Civic Square!

You can’t live long enough to make
them all yourself.”

PERMANENT OUTDOOR STAGE

How about a permanent outdoor stage to host our local talent during the summer months along with local food vans supplying food?

Bring along a chair and listen to a local artist it could be a comedian, instrumental or other performers?

Hold regular weekend evening events?

CONTAINER REFUND SCHEME

Perhaps this container refund scheme set up in Launceston could help assist with funding the Youth Sheds / Edible Community Gardens?

EDIBLE COMMUNITY GARDENS

Imagine green spaces filled with raised garden beds, flowers attracting the bees, water features and landscaped walkways in each suburb where each placement is looked after by the local community.

A place where if you are stretched for fruit and vegetables you can go and gather what you need and give back by spending some time attending to the gardens, have families young and old all helping out a community space for all to enjoy.

Set up workshops to teach the younger generations on how to garden, what plants are edible, what herbs you can use in cooking?

Existing gardens: Punchbowl, Heritage Forest, Russell Street Invermay, Ravenswood

Placements: Rocherlea, Waverley, Mayfield, Summerhill, Prospect, Youngtown, East Launceston, Central Launceston

YOUTH SHEDS

Investing in setting up Youth Sheds there is a link below which is an example of one set up in Denbigh and their goal is to have them set up in every town in Wales.

Could we adopt such a model for our City of Launceston?

Placements: Rocherlea, Mayfield, Mowbray, Ravenswood, Waverley, St Leonards, Newstead, Central Launceston, West Launceston, Prospect, Kings Meadows, Youngtown?
