 WEDNESDAY SEPT 7

Today Kirsten Ritchie announced that she is running as a candidate for Councillor and Deputy Mayor at this upcoming Launceston City Council election.

Ms Ritchie said, “my reasoning for running now is because I wish to be part of putting the beat back into the heart of our community. Listening to people’s needs and wants and actioning them, and with transparency, is my priority. It is their money, their place and it is our city!”

She also said “instead of dreaming, we as a community, can actually build an economically, and sustainable, and environmentally friendly, city right here in the economic heart of Tasmania, and right now.“

Ms Ritchie said, “Launceston must be a city we can all thrive in, no matter what our age, what our cultural heritage, what our gender, what our ability, what our skill sets are, and it is something that can be done . “

“Affordable housing, a clean kanamaluka Tamar, youth facilities, affordable parking, bike lanes, increased tree canopy over, shaded wildspace urban streetscapes, an upgraded Cataract Gorge pool, community advertising spaces, eatable community gardens, possibly a water park and a live stage area for local talent to perform in centrally. Why not aspire to such things?” Ms Ritchie said.

Launceston’s population is growing, and Ms Ritchie said “we need to seriously think about how we are going to manage to accommodate this looking ahead. We are already in a serious crisis, with the cost of living rising and with housing affordability out of reach for far too many.”

“ We must plan in better ways for public transport and traffic management. That is, in out and around central and urban Launceston and NOW” she said.

“If you are a business owner, the community needs your ideas along with your feed-back, the good, the bad and the ugly. Businesses are the heart of our city bringing employment along with all the challenges we all face, each and every day.”

“What does business really need?” asks Ms Ritchie.

“Each of us have our voice, which makes up a community of many voices.”  And Kirsten Ritchie says, “I am looking forward to hearing from a diversity of voices.”

The big question is, what do we think our city should look like? Ms Ritchie says, ‘I want to know! Let us map out our city’s future together. Let it be a future within which all can prosper, all can be safe, where all can participate in building a happy inclusive environment planned for all!”
