I pay respect to Elders – past, present and emerging – and acknowledge the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within the Tasmania’s evolving cultural sensibilities .

RESUME

I have been resident in Launceston for 13 years and I am originally from the North Island of New Zealand.

Past experiences: In my working life at the young age of 17 not knowing what to become I went and knocked on doors of businesses to find a job and on the first day I was offered a two-year traineeship with Canon Copiers. That involved learning how to operate the copiers and the rest of the functions of a copy centre. I completed this traineeship and then at 19, I changed jobs and became a supervisor at Xerox running their in-house copy centres at Telecom and Allied Liquor.

From then, I have progressed to managerial positions in the digital print field as well as sales positions. I have a passion for photography and large format printing which lead me to start up my own business part time from home. As well as being a single mother, studying and completing a small business management certificate and working part time in the food industry, my life has been full.

As well as being the secretary at the local Kindergarten and helping out with the children’s reading classes at Primary School I took on the coaching job for a touch rugby junior team. I had my hands full and I ultimately reached a point where it was time for change, time to move on, time for new horizons.

In search of a fresh start we came to Tasmania and it was hard to find successful employment. So, my working life here has been difficult and at times insecure. I found that life was quite different in Tasmania with how people are treated in their work places which has led me to complete my Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.

I am passionate about being able to make a difference in the work place and ensuring safety first.

Currently: I have now started, and need to complete, my Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. I also have my own photography business in which I work when there is work mainly over the summer months.

I am Public Officer at Strike it Out Inc Tasmania. and I have been since 2017.

Having been a single parent mostly, I now have two adult children who have made me proud. I have inspired them, and encouraged them, to do what they love and both are successful in their working lives.
